PARKINSON'S AWARENESS MONTH: SHINING A LIGHT ON PARKINSON'S

Category: Newsworthy Notes

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding of Parkinson’s, honoring those living with Parkinson’s, and supporting the families and caregivers who walk beside them every day. Across the country and around the world, organizations, advocates, researchers, and communities come together to raise awareness, share resources, and inspire hope.

Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects movement, balance, swallowing, and coordination, as well as many non-motor symptoms such as sleep challenges, mood changes, and cognitive shifts. In the United States, nearly one million people are living with Parkinson’s, and more than 90,000 are diagnosed each year.

Education, community support, and early diagnosis play critical roles in helping people navigate the challenges of Parkinson's and live full, meaningful lives. Every conversation, shared story, and act of support helps move the Parkinson’s community forward. By raising awareness together, we bring greater understanding, stronger connections, and renewed hope for the future.

At PRO, Parkinson’s Awareness Month is a time to celebrate the strength and resilience of our community while continuing our mission of working so no one is isolated because of Parkinson’s.

And speaking of coming together as a community, PRO is celebrating Parkinson's Awareness Month with two very special events...

Chocolate & Champagne is set for April 8th — and we’d love to see you there. Our new home at the Palm Springs Surf Club sets the stage for what promises to be a special evening. Expect appetizers, chocolate, champagne, live entertainment, and a silent auction. Thanks to the generosity of our event sponsors, 100% of proceeds go directly to support PRO’s work on behalf of the Parkinson’s community. Register at parkinsonsresource.org/chocolate.

April 18th is the 5th Annual PRO on the Move 'Walk, Ride, or Roll.' Together, passionate supporters (like you) help raise awareness. This volunteer-led event unites communities in The Coachella Valley and across the country to celebrate Parkinsonians, remember lost loved ones, and raise funds to improve the lives of people with Parkinson's and their families through resources, education, and support. To create your team you just need to gather a few people and register at parkinsonsresource.org/PROontheMove .
