Parkinson’s Resource Organization Unveils Major Public Awareness Campaign on Early Signs of Parkinson’s
Category:New bilingual initiative aims to help people recognize subtle symptoms and seek treatment earlier
Palm Desert, CA, July 1, 2026 – Parkinson’s Resource Organization (PRO) has launched a bilingual public education campaign designed to help people recognize the early signs of Parkinson’s disease – symptoms that appear years before the hallmark tremor that most people associate with the condition.
The initiative is focused on increasing awareness of lesser-known symptoms like constipation, handwriting changes, active dreaming during sleep, loss of smell, anxiety, and depression, encouraging earlier diagnosis and early treatment to increase quality of life.
“People often dismiss the early signs of Parkinson’s as stress, aging, even menopause,” says Eileen Lynch, Executive Director of Parkinson’s Resource Organization. “By helping people recognize the signs sooner, we hope to empower them to seek medical evaluation earlier, access treatments sooner, and potentially even slow disease progression.”
Early diagnosis can provide individuals and families with more time to access therapies, implement lifestyle changes, participate in clinical research, and build a care team before symptoms significantly impact daily life. Research shows that regular vigorous exercise in the early stages of Parkinson’s can help slow the progression of symptoms.
“The misconception that Parkinson’s begins with a tremor can cause serious diagnostic delays,” says Lynch. “With a neurodegenerative condition like Parkinson’s, time is health. We’re committed to helping people make the most of their time and live a good quality of life with Parkinson’s.”
The multi-media campaign includes English and Spanish billboards, television, and radio public service announcements as well as digital advertising, community outreach efforts, educational materials, and physician engagement initiatives throughout the Coachella Valley and surrounding communities. In addition to educating the general public, the campaign seeks to increase awareness among primary care providers and healthcare professionals who are often the first point of contact for individuals experiencing early symptoms.
The campaign reflects PRO’s ongoing commitment to education, advocacy, and support for people living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners. For more than 35 years, the organization has worked to ensure that no one faces Parkinson’s alone by providing free support groups, educational programs, one-on-one guidance, and community.
Community members are encouraged to learn more about the early signs of Parkinson’s disease and access educational resources by visiting Parkinson’s Resource Organization at www.parkinsonsresource.org.
