Winners and More Winners at PRO's Inaugural Brisket Cook-Off Competition

Category: Special Events

Meat lovers made out like kings at PRO’s Inaugural Celebrity Brisket Cook-Off Competition on October 21st and 22nd. Guests enjoyed a dozen briskets over the course of two days along with 20 raffle prizes, performances by Carlos Herrera and Dr. Howard Cohen, and celebrity appearances by Kathy Garver and Marc McClure.

Friday night, guests dined under the stars at Shadow Mountain Golf Club’s brand new (as in, “finished that morning!”) Outdoor Pavilion and Flamingo Bar. The folks at Shadow Mountain, helmed by renowned philanthropist Lindi Biggi, worked non-stop for a month to finish the gorgeous renovation.

After a blind taste test of seven briskets made by amateurs and professionals, the results came in, with a surprise amateur triumph:

Then on Saturday, guests dined poolside in the Palm Springs backyard of Dr. Howard Cohen. Certified crooner Carlos Herrera serenaded Jo with a stunning rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings” and Dr. Cohen himself led the audience to sing “Bridge Over Troubled Water” before the judging began in earnest.

We were especially tickled to see Steve and Howard take first and second place. Not only was the brisket cook-off Dr. Howard Cohen’s idea, but Steve is his twin brother! They each used their mother’s famous brisket recipe, and it was clearly a winner!

Check out photos from both events on Facebook (@ParkinsonsResourceOrganization) and keep an eye out for the upcoming Cookbook release, featuring the winning brisket recipes along with sides.
